What is cold-pressed tubular steel?
Cold-pressed (or cold-formed) tubular steel is square structural tubing — typically 2.5" to 6" square, 12-gauge wall thickness — formed at room temperature rather than hot-rolled. It's lighter, faster to fabricate, and significantly cheaper than red iron I-beams, which makes it the standard framing for small-to-medium metal buildings up to 50 ft wide.
How is tubular different from red iron?
Tubular framing handles clear spans up to 50 ft and buildings up to roughly 5,000 sq ft — shops, workshops, big barns, and budget barndominiums. Red iron is required for spans over 50 ft, heavy snow loads, and large commercial use. Tubular is roughly 30–50% cheaper per sq ft and ships in 2–6 weeks instead of 6–12 weeks.

What's the lead time?
Most tubular kits ship in 2–6 weeks from order, depending on size and current factory backlog. Standard configurations in our most-ordered colors often ship in 2–3 weeks. Fully enclosed garages with insulation and custom doors typically take 4–6 weeks.
Do I need a concrete slab for a tubular building?
Not always — that's one of tubular's biggest advantages over red iron. Tubular kits can be anchored to concrete, asphalt, or even compacted dirt or gravel using the appropriate hardware (wedge anchors for concrete, mobile-home anchors for asphalt, rebar anchors for dirt). Concrete is recommended for any building you plan to insulate or heat.
